FAQs

1. What are the advantages of using stone ?
a) No other material looks as real and feels as natural as stone. Stone has a unique look and natural character which you will enjoy for a lifetime. It has been created by nature over thousands of years.

PreCast copies of stone are not as natural looking and do not have the same depth of colour or variation in colour or variations in surface texture.

b) Stone is maintenance free and requires no upkeep at all. It ages naturally with your home and will look just as great in twenty years time. When you add the cost of re-painting or re-plastering every few years,  natural stone can work out as the lowest cost and best solution over the long term.

c) A stone finish on your home will add a whole new dimension and character and will set it apart in terms of appearance and classic style.

2. Are there any dis-advantages to using stone?
Yes. If building stone is used ( eight inch thickness) , then the the building will need to be stronger to support the weight of the stone. Also, strong lintels will be needed over doors and windows. However, some clients feel that the visual look is more important than the extra cost of a stronger building structure.

Thin Stone is nearly always a better and more cost effective solution than the heavier building stone. Normally the overall difference in cost is between 20 % to 30%. This is because ThinStone needs no structural support and is more easy to build.

We have worked extensively with both methods of building stonework and know that these savings are real.

ThinStone is is real stone, but just cut to thinner sections, so extra structural support is not required. So it is natural stonework but at less cost.

3. Which type of stone is best?
This depends on your specific project and also on which stone has the strongest appeal to you. There is no one stone which is best. Sandstone has a nice variation in both colour and texture. Limestone is darker and has a more classic, more uniform look.
